Janée
Hayes was born in Washington, DC where she attended Sidwell Friends High School. At Sidwell, she was a multi sport athlete garnering numerous accolades in both volleyball and basketball. After attracting the likes of Penn State, University of Florida, UCLA, and others, she chose to further her athletic career at Duke University where she would go on to play volleyball and basketball.
After graduating from Duke, she furthered her athletic career by playing professional basketball for the next few years. In 2004, she returned to her first love as she became the head coach of the UDC’s women’s volleyball team. In 2011, she returned to her alma mater, Sidwell Friends, to become interim coach for season. During that season, they won the ISL championship and were runner ups for the state championships.
Janée Hayes has coached and developed many All-League and All-Met players who have proceeded to play in college. She also trains her daughter who was named to the USA A1 National Training Team for two different positions and currently plays volleyball for UNC Charlotte.
Currently Coach Hayes is the head volleyball coach at the National Cathedral School. She continues to exercise her “old school” approach as she develops and trains players. Her favorite motto is “don’t tell me what you can’t do, show me what you can do.”
